Post-modern artist and RSFWF member, Jean Wells Hamerslag,
graciously invited a living room full of enthusiastic members to view her colorful, playfully-oversized mosaic sculptures embracing pop iconography. Jean explained that her home was her gallery and it was true, her works were everywhere: an eight-foot tall red and gold lipstick in the corner, hot pink lips resting on a table, enormous ice cream cones, a lifesize teddy bear in a hippy vest. One could not help but smile at the optimistic, extravaganza of color.
Jean comes from a family of artists, three generations of them. Following her father's and grandfather's footsteps, she launched her midlife career in mosaics when the kids left home and within five years achieved worldwide acclaim with many museums seeking her work for their collections. Thanks, Jean, we loved them!
